Looking to buy a bass guitar or upgrade to a better model? It can be difficult to choose the right instrument amongst so many choices out there. An electric bass that definitely stands out from the competition is the Yamaha TRBX174. This is one of the basses our teachers recommend beginners for bass guitar lessons with us. I would best describe it as a kind of combination between the TBR line and the RBX line basses.
The features
The Yamaha TRBX174 has a solid mahogany body and a slim neck made of maple with mahogany strips. The fingerboard is rosewood and the guitar comes with ceramic humbucker pick-ups with a 2-band equalizer (bass and treble). It has die-cast tuners and bridge and the scale length is 34” (863.6mm). In addition, the TRBX174 has a five-position switch. This is very unusual for a bass guitar. The five-position switch choices are:
- Slap sound
- Pick sound
- Flat sound
- Finger sound
- Solo sound
The flat sound produces a passive natural tone. It is reminiscent of Motown bass parts. This is also a very warm sound appropriate to play jazz. The slap sound is very funky. The finger sound is appropriate to play ballads and the pick sound is great for pop and rock music.
Colours/Finishes
You have a choice of 5 colours with the Yamaha TRBX174. These are: pewter, black, white, red and mist green.
