Parents and students often ask us for recommendations on a suitable guitar that is a step up from a beginner guitar like the Monterey beginner guitar. These are parents with kids that have made good progress learning guitar with us. They are looking for advice on a better guitar that sounds nice but won’t break the budget.
I have to admit that I have a special preference for Yamaha guitars. I own one and I am very happy with it! The one that I highly recommend is the Yamaha CG122MS guitar. This guitar is built with the craftsmanship normally reserved for a more expensive instrument.

The solid Engelmann spruce top gives it a warm natural sounding projection. The guitar features nato wood neck, back and sides that produce a deep rich tone. It has a fretboard made of rosewood that it is very comfortable to play. In addition, the CG122MS has a good quality chrome machine head with white pearloid peg tuners. Last but not least, this Yamaha guitar comes in a beautiful matt finish.
Good Value for Money
With the CG122MS guitar, Yamaha have stepped it up from their base model. This guitar is for a player looking for a guitar better than a beginner model at an affordable price. As of the writing of this article, it retails in Australia between $349-$439 depending on where you shop.

Yamaha guitars have a reputation for being very well built. The CG122MS is no exception. This is an excellent sounding and easy to play entry-level classical concert guitar.
