BEGINNERS
There are two guitar courses available at Do Re Mi Studios for beginners depending on their age. These are:
FOR AGES 5-12
The guitar is a tricky instrument to learn for young beginners. Little hands and undeveloped dexterity (motor coordination) make it a common reason for young children to easily give up on the instrument. Even a simple tune like “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” can be difficult to learn on the guitar.
Therefore, we developed a book series called “Guitar Made Easy” that not only is fun but is a very easy way to learn guitar. Based on a vast teaching experience, our lessons and book method are based on learning chords first. All the skills are learnt with the aid of back up tracks which are very funky!! So from lesson 1, young beginners play along with a back-up track straightaway. Yes!! You play a full song from lesson 1.
We are very proud of our unique method at Do Re Mi Studios. The success rate with our students has been fantastic. All theory in the lessons is learnt through songs. With every new song you learn in the book, a new chord or music concept is covered.
A strong emphasis is placed on developing good listening skills. This is essential to develop the ability to learn songs by ear.
Once having completed the “Guitar Made Easy” series, young beginners are ready to face the more challenging “Rhythm Guitar” series which we offer beginners from around ages 12 onwards. The first part of this course will be a revision of the chords learnt in the “Guitar Made Easy” series. However, the emphasis will be on playing tracks from The Beatles to U2, learning more complex rhythms and further developing technique. Read more about it below.
AGES 12 UPWARDS
Lessons for students ages 12 and above are based around our “Rhythm Guitar” book series created at Do Re Mi Studios. This method is based on learning chords first.
Why learn chords first and not individual notes? Well, the reason is that with chords you can quickly get to play along to a well known song. The first song you will be learning in the lessons is “Stand by me”. This achievement is a strong encouragement to keep students motivated and thus progress quickly. If you were to start learning individual notes first, you would be likely to start with children’s songs like “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” just to get you to learn the basic notes.
Music theory at Do Re Mi Studios is learnt through songs. With every new song you learn, a new chord or music concept is covered. As with our young beginner book series (for ages 5-12), there is a strong emphasis placed on developing good listening skills in our lessons. As mentioned earlier, this is essential so that students can learn how to play songs by ear.
