Our Jannali music tutors recommend you ask for our advice during one of your guitar lessons before buying a musical instrument/amplifier. This is because buying a musical instrument is a big investment and there are many product choices out there.
The first thing you should do, is research everything you can about the instrument or amp. The first place I recommend you to research is the internet. There you will find product reviews and you will also be able to look at message boards of online music communities. These will offer good reviews of what people using your instrument/amp think of it. If possible, also ask the opinion of musicians and music teachers. There are also great music magazines (e.g “Guitar World”, “Modern Drummer” and “Keyboard”) that have product reviews and recommendations.
If you are buying a second hand instrument or amp from a garage sale, try to meet the owner and ask him why he is selling it, how long it was used, etc. If you are buying it from an online shop, make sure they have good reviews with their customers. If these online shops have a return policy, that would also be great.
It would be ideal if you can ask someone who also plays the instrument you want to buy to accompany you to the shop. If you have a friend who plays that instrument and is willing to help you that would be great. They can help assess the condition of the instrument and give you a better idea if it is worth the cost.
On the topic of cost, if you are buying a second hand instrument or amp, make sure that the money you’re paying for it is worth it. So that you get the right price for it, research how much the instrument or amp costs if you were to buy it new. The best way to do this is to go to different shops and compare prices. By doing this, you will get a true indication of what you are paying for and whether it is good value.
Musical instruments and amps are expensive so don’t be afraid to ask questions when buying one. As mentioned earlier, our Jannali music tutors are happy to help you with more advice on buying guitar amplifiers and instruments. Call us now on 95892535.
